Mortar & pestle #4 by Shira Keret, made from sugar & spice and silver

Bezalel Academy of Art and Design graduate Shira Keret has designed a series of objects called Paraphrase, each of which corresponds to a written text which serves as the essence of the object. WGSN-homebuildlife's favourites from the series are the collection of five mortar & pestles, constructed from fine materials including oak, porcelain, brass, glass, sugar and spice, silver and carrara marble.

Keret's text to accompany the collection follows:

"I held the marble handle cool and smooth
so smooth and cold it was
pressed against my warm cheek."

Mortar & pestle #3 by Shira Keret, made from oak and glass
"Coming to,
I resumed bashing the clay before me, grinding it to a dust.
Every thrust echoing in the vessel's veins
The clay remembering every well-aimed blow."

Mortar & pestle #2 by Shira Keret, made from oak, porcelain, silicone and brass
"Like a cave woman
I bash defiant grains
piling them all to an aromatic dust heap."
